Your Pro-rated HVUT Form 2290 deadline is just a fortnight away!

Truckers, the Pro-rated Heavy highway vehicle used tax return is now due by 09/30/2019 for vehicles first used since August 2019. This deadline is drafted based on the Federal law that states that the Form 2290 must be e-filed on a vehicle by the last day of the month following the month of its first use. On that basis, the HVUT Form 2290 is now due by 09/30 for vehicles first used since Aug 2019.

The Heavy Highway vehicle used tax return is basically paid on Heavy vehicles with a taxable gross weight of 55000 lbs or more and if the same is been used over the public highways for commercial, Agricultural & Logging purposes.

If the said vehicle is expected to be operated over 5000 miles for Commercial based units and over 7500 miles for Agricultural based units then tax due is required to be paid on these trucks upfront for the upcoming 12 months. On the other hand, if the vehicle seems to be used under the mileage limit then the truck turns out to be exempt and no taxes are required to be paid on such vehicles.

The Annual HVUT Form 2290 is basically due by June and its payable until the end of August, for the current year the HVUT Form 2290 for the period beginning July 1, 2019 through June 30, 2020 was due since June 2019 and the actual deadline was extended up until Sept. 3, 2019. We realize that most of the truckers might have missed on the deadline due to busy on road schedule. For those, we want you to know that now it’s not too late to renew your Form 2290 to avoid maximum penalties from the IRS.

Truckers, the Federal law indicates that the Pro-rated HVUT Form 2290 needs to be filed by the last day of the month following the month of its first use. On that basis the Pro-rated HVUT Form 2290 is now due by September 30, 2019 for vehicles first used since August 2019.

This law is only applicable for vehicles that are purchased/re-purchased or placed into commission on road since August 2019. Else, the annual HVUT Form 2290 is generally due by June and its payable until the end of August every year.

Hello there truckers, as you all know that the HVUT Form 2290 is now past due for a renewal. However, it’s not too late now to e-file the HVUT Form 2290 right now with no penalties. Since, the IRS does make exception in granting few days post the deadline for truckers due to their inability to e-file the return on time due to their busy on-road schedule.

By far, millions of HVUT returns must have been e-filed for the period beginning July 1st, 2019 through June 30th, 2020 before Sept. 3, 2019 which will be considered to be on time. Any tax returns e-filed beyond this time frame will be considered late hence, penalties & interests may apply.

But the IRS has its ground rules of exception scenarios by which they evaluate the reason behind the delayed filing is acceptable or not. Most cases, truckers themselves will be tirelessly working over the road to serve our nation’s needs on time. So, there are mere chances that you will be penalized by the IRS for being late.

It only takes few minutes for you to renew your HVUT Form 2290 via www.truckdues.com  just enter your vehicle information and the application would take care of the rest. Wondering how to claim a refund on your HVUT Form 2290? Here’s how!

Hello there Truckers, the HVUT Form 2290 is an annual tax paid to the Internal Revenue Service every year on vehicle which comprises a minimum gross weight of 55000 lbs or more and if the same truck is been used over the public highways for commercial, agricultural & logging purposes.

If the respected vehicle is used over the desired mileage limit for exemption as in 5000 miles for Commercial & Logging based units & 7500 miles for Agricultural based units then the vehicle turns out to be taxable vehicle and the tax due payment needs to be paid to the Internal Revenue Service full in advance.

On the other hand, if the subjected vehicle seems to be used under 5000 miles for Commercial & Logging based units & 7500 miles for Agricultural based units then the vehicles are considered to be Suspended/Exempt vehicle where the tax due is not imposed on such vehicles, however these vehicles needs to be reported on the Form 2290 in order to claim an exemption from the IRS.

Now there are few claims that are supported in accordance to the Form 2290.

  1. Taxes over paid credits.
  2. Suspended vehicle Exceeds Mileage.
  3. Low Mileage Vehicle Credits.

Claims against Tax over payment:  When the taxes are paid for a respective vehicle more than once within the same tax year, then the excess paid amount can be claimed as a refund by filing the Claim Form 8849 Schedule 6 as a result you will receive a refund check back from the IRS in 21 business days in your mailing address.

When the vehicle is Sold/Destroyed/Stolen:  When the taxes are paid full in advance on a respective vehicle and if the subjected vehicle is Sold/Destroyed/Stolen a partial refund can be claimed via the Form 8849 Schedule 6.

Low Mileage vehicle credit:  When the taxes are paid full in advance on a vehicle assuming it would go over 5000 miles or 7500 miles but if the truck remains under the mileage limit for exemption during the year, the IRS lets you claim a full refund by the following tax year.

In case you got any questions on how to go about claiming a refund on your Form 2290, reach our Tax expert help-desk @ (347) 515-2290 Monday through Friday [9.
