So Who Needs To File Form 2290 2020-21 With Truckdues ?

So if your vehicle weighs more than 55,000 pounds and is likely to cross 5,000 miles during the taxation year 2020-21, you’re required to file form 2290. However, if your vehicle does not cover the standardized weight and miles, your vehicle is counted as suspended vehicle. Now, that does not mean you don’t have to pay taxes to IRS. You are requested to file form 2290 before the due date and keep IRS informed about your suspension. There are other types of vehicle as well, that includes logging and exempted vehicles.

Form 2290 is due TODAY for vehicles first used in February 2021. E-file now!

Dear HVUT filers, As we have learned to live along with the covid Virus, we also have good news around different parts of the world getting vaccinated to prevent and cure us of this Virus. Hope it brings a breakthrough and saves lives. But that doesn’t mean that we can roam around free right, we still have to be cautious to be safe. And the same applies to Form 2290. The IRS offices are closed it doesn’t mean that there is no need for you to file your taxes, well that why we’re here, to meet all your HVUT form 2290 needs. As you know the HVUT Form 2290 is now due today for the vehicles bought or used since February 2021 for the Period beginning July 1, 2020 through June 30, 2021, thousands of truckers have e-filed their HVUT Form 2290 for the current period already and what about you?

Every year, the tax due amount is paid full in advance to the Internal Revenue Service based on the fact if the vehicle is going to be used over 5,000 miles for commercial & 7,500 miles for Agricultural based units. Having said that, the Form 2290 is pro-rated as the tax deadline for the new vehicles happens to be the last day of the month following the month of its first use. So should you pay it up in full no, as said the taxes will be calculated on a pro-rated basis from the month of January or December based on the month of use.

The HVUT Form 2290 partial period tax is now due for vehicles first used since February 2021

The Federal law states that Form 2290 must be filed by the last day of the month following the month of its first use. On that basis, March 31, 2021, happens to be the deadline for vehicles first used in February 2021.

How do I pay my 2290?

When it comes to E-Filing your IRS Form 2290 through an authorized E-File provider such as Truckdues.com, there are 4 different payment options.  Taxpayers can pay by Electronic Funds Withdrawal, EFTPS, Credit/debit card payment, Check or Money Order.  The options to pay by check or money order may be easier to understand, but the options for Electronic Funds Withdrawal, EFTPS and credit/debit card payment may need an additional explanation.


If you elect to pay by Electronic Funds Withdrawal, you can use either a checking or savings account.  You will need to enter the U.S. Bank Account Number and Routing Number in order for the IRS to Process the payment.  This information is typically listed on a check.

The HVUT Form 2290 partial period tax is now due for vehicles first used since January 2021

While that being said your love and passion for trucking drives the nation. The Pro-rated HVUT Form 2290 is now due by March 1 2021 for vehicles first used since January 2021. This Pro-rated deadline is drafted based on the Federal law that indicates Form 2290 must be filed by the last day of the month following the month of its first use.

If you had purchased/re-purchased any new trucks during January 2021, then you got 60 days before you could file this Form 2290, you generally file this tax form to get your vehicle plates, tags, licenses renewed.

Finally, the IRS is up and running!

Hey there truckers! Hope you’re all covered up with your taxes and had a stress free new year. There’s always a deadline coming up every month and as you know it’s time to report your vehicles bought in the month of December 2020 before January 31, 2021. Though most of you prefer to file your tax returns electronically we do get contacted for the manual filing process. Due to the pandemic, the IRS offices are closed and the only option would be is to file your taxes electronically. E-filing make your filing experience easier and faster when compared to manual filing.

IRS Year End Scheduled Downtime for Maintenance this December 2020

The IRS would go down for a routine year end maintenance schedule to upgrade the system for the new tax year. The impact would be on all the tax returns filed after December 26, 2020. IRS will not be available until 1st week of January 2021 to issue the acknowledgment proof. This would impact the Federal Vehicle Use Taxpayer reporting their heavy highway vehicle since July 2020. For vehicles operated for the first time in November 2020 will be due by December 31, 2020. We advised all the 2290 taxpayers to report it by the Christmas week to receive back the IRS watermarked Schedule 1 receipt. If you miss then you would not be able to receive a copy until 1st week of January.

The IRS E-file Servers will be shut down for Year-End Maintenance every year by Christmas to prepare their systems for the upcoming Tax Year’s Filing, e-file Form 2290 before IRS shutdown to receive stamped sch.1 copy within minutes else you need to wait till 1st week of January until IRS opens to start processing tax returns.
