Just four days remain before the April 30th deadline for submitting Form 2290 for vehicles first used since March 2021. E-file Now!

Good day, truckers! We’ve got an important update for you. For any new vehicles first used on a public highway in March, the Heavy Highway vehicle used tax return is due on a pro-rated basis for the period July 1, 2020, to June 30, 2021, and is due on April 30, 2021.

E-filing allows for a quicker approval of the tax return. It’s best to E-File your HVUT Form 2290 as soon as possible to prevent a last-minute panic that might result in your vehicle registration being revoked. Hello there dear truckers, last week’s blog was emphasized the different types of rejections. The most important of them all was the EIN rejection or name control rejection the combination of the EIN and the name of the taxpayer is revised into a unique identifier for each taxpayer. And, you stand responsible to provide the correct EIN while filing or your return would be rejected if the same doesn’t match.

If you don’t remember your EIN while filing your return or you have accidentally misplaced it, reach IRS at 1-866-699-4096 and they would look into it for you.

While majority of truckers have a registered EIN or tax ID many still seem to file using their social security number. Well is it not something that can be used ?  We wouldn’t say no but an SSN can be used only while paper filing at the IRS office directly or manually by mailing the documents to the IRS office. Since the IRS offices are closed due to covid-19 paper filing is out of the option and hence one would not be able to use it in filing a 2290 return electronically. So what do you do in this case?

The HVUT Form 2290 partial period tax is now due for vehicles first used since January 2021

Hello there truckers, Hope you had a wonderful valentines week amidst your loved ones. The love towards our close ones drives us every day doesn’t it? While that being said your love and passion for trucking drives the nation. The Pro-rated HVUT Form 2290 is now due by March 1 2021 for vehicles first used since January 2021. This Pro-rated deadline is drafted based on the Federal law that indicates Form 2290 must be filed by the last day of the month following the month of its first use.

If you had purchased/re-purchased any new trucks during January 2021, then you got 60 days before you could file this Form 2290, you generally file this tax form to get your vehicle plates, tags, licenses renewed.

The IRS has begun accepting tax payments using Credit/Debit cards for the HVUT form 2290, E-file now!

Hello, there dear truckers! Hope you’re doing good. It’s once again time for some updates with form 2290 filings, about a year ago the IRS stopped accepting credit/debit card payments to pay the taxes, and now it’s back. Recently the IRS began accepting tax payments using Credit/Debit cards and it’s one of the most misunderstood modes of payment. HVUT payers are prone to misconception based on their assumption that paying the IRS tax payment using a credit/debit card is an automated process but in reality, it’s not.

The IRS basically gives four different option to pay your taxes:

1. EFW (Electronic Funds Withdrawal)

2. EFTPS (Electronic Federal tax payment system)

3. CREDIT/ Debit card payment

4. Mailing a check to the IRS

Out of these four if you choose to pay using credit/debit card option you need to log into the IRS payments portal https://www.irs.gov/payments/pay-taxes-by-credit-or-debit-card this portal is dedicated for credit or debit card payments.
