Hello there truckers, Over this article, we are going to discuss the near–term HVUT Form 2290 deadline for vehicles that are into service since February 2021. The Federal law states that Form 2290 must be filed by the last day of the month following the month of its first use. On that basis, March 31, 2021, happens to be the deadline for vehicles first used in February 2021.
Now before you are going to e-file your pro-rated Form 2290, you need to figure out whether your Truck is Taxable or Suspended. Basically, there are 2 types of vehicles reported in Form2290 as follows: So why bring this up now? well, let’s see that.
Taxable vehicle: If your truck would exceed 5000 miles for the Period beginning Feb 1st, through June 30th, 2021 then your truck is classified to be a Taxable vehicle, for which you are required to make a pro-rated tax due amount to the IRS for the above mentioned period. The tax amount varies among the gross weight of the vehicle. But some vehicles do more than 5000 miles in a year but may not do in 4-5 months so do you have to pay the taxes well no
Suspended vehicle: If your truck is expected to be used under 5000 miles for the Period beginning Feb 1st, through June 30th, 2021, then your truck is classified to be a Suspended vehicle, in other word an Exempt vehicle for the current tax year for which you’re not required to make any tax payment however, you need to report the vehicle over a Form 2290 under Suspended Vehicle to claim an exemption for the reported period.
