IRS servers might sooner go off-line! E-File Soon!

Hello there truckers, the Internal Revenue Service online servers usually goes off-line every year during the Christmas Eve with a motive to upgrade their servers to generate updated forms and support tax returns for the upcoming tax period ( For the period beginning July 1st, 2019 through June 30th, 2020).

This year, the IRS have scheduled to initiate their annual maintenance period beginning December 26th, 2018 at 11.59 A.M. Eastern Standard Time and we expect the IRS to officially recommence full operations during the 1st week of January 2019. Now during this maintenance period, the IRS servers completely turns out to be idle hence, No tax returns that are e-filed will be processed by the IRS until the maintenance period is ceased.

Now you might be thinking what tax return needs to be e-filed during this downtime. Well your HVUT Form 2290 does! Yes, the Pro-rated HVUT Form 2290 is now due by Dec 31st, 2018 for vehicles that are into service since November 2018. As the Federal law states that a Form 2290 must be filed on a vehicle by the last day of the month following the month of its first use.

Having said that, now this Pro-rated HVUT Filing deadline is APPLICABLE ONLY FOR VEHICLES THAT WERE PURCHASED/ RE-PURCHASED OR STARTED ITS OPERATION BEGINNING NOVEMBER 2018) Hence, this deadline does not have any impact over your annual HVUT renewals which were done during July or August 2018, As the Form 2290 is generally due by June and its payable until the end of August.

If you have realized that you needed to file a pro-rated Form 2290 right now, we recommend you to E-file the pro-rated HVUT Form 2290 before the IRS shutdown period to avoid any delays in getting your tax return processed until the maintenance period is ceased.
