The HVUT Form 2290 Renewal is due NOW. E-File Soon!

The Federal heavy vehicle used tax return HVUT Form 2290 is generally due by June and its payable until the end of August. Now it’s the last month hence we got only a couple of weeks before the Form could be renewed on time for the Period beginning July 1st, 2018 through June 30th, 2019.

The Form 2290 is an annual tax paid to the Internal Revenue Service for vehicles which possess a minimum gross weight of 55000 lbs and the same vehicle is been used over the public highway for its desired use.

If the subjected vehicle is primarily been used for commercial purposes then the desired mileage limit to claim an exemption from paying taxes to the federal government would be 5000 miles for a respective tax period. In case of Agricultural vehicles then the desired mileage limit to claim an exemption from paying taxes to the federal government would be 7500 miles for a respective tax period.

The tax due amount paid is generally determined by the combined gross weight of the vehicle, Federal law states that the truck must possess a minimum of 55000 lbs in order to be reported over the Form 2290 hence, on the Form 2290 the gross weight list begins from 55000 lbs for which the annual tax due amount is $100 and there is an increase of $22 for every 1000 lbs increase. Hence, the maximum tax due amount paid to the IRS would be $550.
